RESEARCH INTEREST:
- Our research lab has expertise in two areas that are united by Analytical Chemistry and Electrochemistry:
- Biosensors: Our laboratory develops biosensors for the measurement of neuropeptides in real-time. We develop implantable biosensors modified with different receptors that bind to specific neuropeptides in the brain such as neuropeptide Y. This work has been done with the support of NIH/NIMH and NIGMS. We also develop biosensors that can measure neuropeptides in sweat in real-time. We have been developing a biosensor to measure GFAP in sweat as a biomarker for recent traumatic brain injury. This work has been done with the support of NSF and NASA.
- Electrocatalysts: Our laboratory develops electrocatalysts for the oxigen reduction and evolution reactions for anion exchange membrane fuel cells and water electrolysis. In this area, we are dedicated to understand the mechanism of activity and degradation of non-platinum group metal electrocatalysts. This work has been done with the support of NSF, DOE, and the Puerto Rico Science, Technology, and Research Trust.
